Draupadi: An Epitome of Feminity and Feminism

"Draupadi has five husbands - but she has none -

Because her husbands married to many women.

She had five sons - and was never a mother …

Nobody treated her as their mother

The pandavas have given Draupadi … No joy, no sense of victory No honour as wifeNo respect as mother -Only the status of a Queen …

She was only the symbol of beauty and intelligence together with strength

But they all have gone And I'm left with a lifeless jewel And an empty crown …My baffled
motherhoodWrings its hands and strives to weep".

This is how a woman was humiliated........... Though she was humiliated by everybody, she was quite strong and had the same kind of will power and strength of destruction. Hence due to her Kurukshetra war happened. She always raised a voice against her humiliation. That is why she is prayed in Indian mythology................A SYMBOL OF FEMINISM AND STRENGTH

Well, the character of Draupadi in Mahabharata is excepational. I dont think in any part of the world any author ever imagined a character like Draupadi. Its unbelievable that women like her used to be in real life.

Draupadi represents a unque kind of personality which is inexplicable.

Its very very tough to understand her character in the history.

As more as we study and think of Indian history, two women characters emerge so strongly and make us literally spell bound. Of course Sita and Draupadi. These two women suffered; and only suffered a lot and a lot, perhaps due to egos of their in-laws, or mistakes of their life partners. These two women literally crafted and created character of Indian woman and a woman resembling character like them would become Godess in this country.

There is really no answer why Sita was sent to Vanvaas in Uttar Ramayan and why Draupadi was dragged in the dirty game of Dyut? Why they didnt revolt? Why, why at all? Who are the culprits?

No doubt blame goes to men community; and I dont find any justification to this. Yes men are to be blamed for these blunders made in the history. But why these two powerful women suffered. Studying them properly, they too were not ordinary women. Had they determined to revolt against society and social systems, I think they would have succeeded. But then why didnt they revolt!!

I dont think that mere impressions of so called Sanskars was hindrance. It must be something very basic, very fundamental. Perhaps at this stage, that is something beyond our comprehension, imagination, anticipation and expectation.

Well, Your article is good no doubt, but still its not complete story. In our lives, we should try to find out these truths.

Mahabharata is not a part of Indian history, it is a part of Indian mythology.

Yes, these two (Draupadi and Sita) they are literally crafted and created characters by poet of Mahabharata (It is a poetic literature of Sanskrit). I think these two are the delebtrately created characters to represent the expectations from an Indian woman who might be humiliated by anybody.....indicating that she has to be tolerant like Sita...she has to be like Sita in real life but nobody is forcing any of the Indian men to be like Rama or Lakshamana or Bharata in real life.
