Birth Day
Birth DayMrinal, a 10 years aged boy,was very intelligent. Some of his bad habits like unhelping nature, never do any work told by anybody, skeeping homework, quarreling with most of the students and telling lies were dominating over his intelligence and other qualities. Hence, everybody in the school and friends with whom he used to play, used to complain about him. Day by day Mrinal was becoming more and more roud which was noticed by his parents. They tried to talk with him separately and together regarding the matter but Mrinal was ignoring everybody. His father tried to punish him still it did not work. His parents were in great worry about Mrinal's behaviour and used to feel embarrased if somebody talks about him.
One fine day his father called Mrinal and talked with him regarding the matter but in different manner. He said, "look Mrinal, if I heard any complaint about you from anybody, I am going to put a nail on the door of our living room. Now it is up to you, how you behave." Mrinal did not find anything wrong in it so agreed to what his father told. Mrinal thought that, how father can put nails on the new door of newly decorated living room? So as usual he ignored and continued his behaviour. One week over and he realised that there were many nails appeared on the door and he was surprised but still ignored. Now, by the end of two weeks most of the place on the door was filled with nails. It was devaluing the beauty of the newly decorated living room.
After a week, there was Mrinal's sister's birth day and his parents arranged a party. Many guests and family friends of their family joined the party. That day also Mrinal did not help anybody for te preparation. But nobody said anything. His father was actually keenly observing Mrinal's behaviour since he told Mrinal about putting nails on the door. Everybody admired their living room's lavishness but some of them did ask about the ugly looking door. His father purposefully told everybody the reason behind that ugly door without any hesitation. Mrinal was also listening to this. He felt ashamed of himself and ran in the bedroom. He was crying but nobody tried to cosol him.
The next day morning Mrinal came to his father and asked to take out all the nails from the door. Father asked him the reason and he told that he has realised his mistake and he will behave better from today. Mrinal was changed, his father removed all the nails from the door. The door with holes was looking more ugly. After a week, Mrinal again came to his father and asked to replace the door with wholes by a new one. He told his father that the door with removed nails recalling his bad memories. Father assured to replace the door but told very important thing to him.
Father said, "Bad habits are just like nails and our 'self' or soul or mind is just like the door. Once we get the bad habits, those leave great impressions on our 'self' or mind or soul just like the holes left on the door. In the case of door we can replace it but what about our 'self' or soul or mind? We cann't replace it." Tears rolled down the eyes of Mrinal. Father also convinced that Mrinal has realised and improving day by day. He replaced the door by a new one. Mrinal's father was more happy because though it was difficult to change Mrinal, he succeeded in that.
