Possessiveness and Attachment

Possessiveness and Attachment
When I moved to my new room, I came to know that before me one person was staying in that room who has become my friend afterwards. When I realised this, i told him emmediately that as a coincidence I have moved to the room where he was staying before. Immediately I got his reply that he never liked Cambrige and especially that room as outside that room he used to smell like a dustbin. Fortunately, when I moved to that room it was not so. I wrote him back that it is good that he doesn't have any attachment to the place where he stayed almost one year. Though he complained about the room, from his later replies I understood that he is having some attachment to that room. Suddenly, some days before, he started mentioning my current room as his room and the sense was quite possessive. I am still wondering whether attachment is good or possessiveness is bad. Sometimes I feel that unless somekind of attachment is there one cann't do anything. When attachment turns into possessiveness it becomes bad. Very thin line is there in between these two. I think that thin line is nothing but space........

Can I put it this way,

Attachment is mere desire, want..

Possessiveness is desire (want) + ego
